Sandpaper Perches, don't use them.
Sandpaper perch covers are sold to bird owners as a way to keep their bird's nails short and under control but do they work? And are they good for our birds? Yes and No. I can't see why they wouldn't wear a birds nails down and sandpaper is abrasive by design but sandpaper can't tell the differences between a bird nails and a bird feet.
As the bird moves over the sandpaper it's feet are going to get worn down along with it's nails, as the skin gets thinner it will allow bacteria to get in leading to infections. Sandpaper perch covers and similar products should not be given to your birds.
Providing your bird with natural, safe branches to move around on should be enough to keep their nails under control. If you think your birds nails are too long then speak with your Vet.
If you think that I'm wrong then please email me with links so I can correct the information, Thank you.
