Over the years I have meet and had the pleasure of talking with people that are passionate about birds. I’ve also seen a few of these people pass away. Once they are gone, so too are their stories and knowledge but this is one thing that we can change.
“Yabber” is the name of the new series that will be coming to the BirdSpy Australia YouTube channel. Yabber is an Australian slang term for chatter and in this series I want people to yabber on about what they find interesting, their Yabbering will then be edited into an interesting video for us all to learn from.
The series will record the yabbering (stories) of current aviculturist, zookeepers, researchers and anyone else that has a link to avian fauna. I’m currently talking with a university professor and a snake handler to arrange the best times to visit to record their episodes.
Once the first few episodes are made it should make it easier to get other people to agree to be involved. I have a few people and places in mind and I will be contacting them soon but the biggest hurdle will be funding this series.
I’m currently base in the east of Victoria so getting to these people and filming involves a couple of days or more. So travelling and accommodation will eat into the fund that I have put aside very fast and that is why I now have a Patreon page. The Patreon page is for YOU the viewer and fan of my work to help me continue to make videos. Your small monthly payment will help me make this series and others.
Your support will also help cover the cost of new film and sound equipment as there are some people that I would like to make a video with/about but I don’t have the right equipment to make the videos that they and you deserve.
Please consider supporting this series with as little as $1USD per mouth.

The first one is up.
The first episode was unplanned and filming started within a couple of hours of contacting Steve but I'm very pleased with the final results.
On the Perch is a great park and Steve is such a nice and friendly person. |
Would you like to be in an episode?
I'm looking for people that have interesting stories to add to the list for extra episodes. If you know someone that should have their story told then send me some details, that someone might be yourself. They could have one aviary or hundreds, they could have a few pet birds or be a birder (birdwatcher), they could be a researcher or zookeeper, it doesn't matter as long as a few people find it interesting.
There are so many Australians that have a life that involves birds in some way, let's share it with the world.
