When are birds free and what is Freedom?

There are people that don't think we should keep animals as pets and some of these people post comments on my videos and photos saying that the birds should be free, but what is freedom.
Is the flea that lives on a dog free? It can't move to a cat as dog and cat fleas are different. Is a Bat that can only come out at night free? Is the flightless cormorant of the Galapagos Islands free? Being free means different things to everyone and everything.

Which one is free, the bird that we confine to an area that is able to find a mate, have plenty of food, free from most dangers and able to raise young or a bird in the wild that is confined to an area with limited food and nesting site and could be taken at anytime by a predator?

A species has a natural range but individual birds might be confined to a small territory with in that range. Natural barriers that birds face are things like mountains, rivers, seas, habitat, climate and food.

If these people got their way and we opened our aviaries to let our bird go there will be tens of thousands, if not millions of birds dying as they do not know how to survive in the wild. Some people free flight their birds and most of those birds come back. I’ve had birds get out of their aviaries and most just want to get back in.

Just remember that “Birds don’t need to be in the wild to be happy and not all wild birds have freedom”.

Any animal in your care should be provided with the best life you can provide and if that is not an acceptable standard then please look at re-homing your animal but under no circumstance should you release a pet into the wild.

If you think that I'm wrong then please email me with links so I can correct the information, Thank you.
